Delete Account ≠ Cancel Subscription (2026 Guide)

Checked 2026-10-02. Deleting an app or account often removes the login — not the billed party’s renewal. This page is a fork + checklist, not a refund guarantee.

Quick answer

  1. Deleting the app only removes the icon. Billing can continue.
  2. Deleting the account may wipe data/login and still leave Apple, Google Play, Amazon, Roku, carrier, or merchant renewals active.
  3. Open your statement, match the charge descriptor, and cancel with who’s billing you.
  4. Save cancel confirmation + end date.
  5. If a charge posts after that date, use the charged-after checklist.

If you already wiped the account and can’t log in, cancel from the store or statement owner (Apple Subscriptions, Google Play Subscriptions, Amazon Memberships / Subscribe & Save, carrier portal) using the same Apple ID / Google account / Amazon account that shows on the charge.

Who still bills you after “delete”

Use the charge line, not the app name:

Descriptor looks like…Cancel here
APPLE.COM/BILL / App StoreCancel subscriptions on iPhone
Google PlayCancel subscriptions on Google Play
Amazon / AMZN / S&SAmazon subscriptions hub · product S&S / diapers
Merchant name onlyThat brand’s Account → Cancel — start at cancel hub

Canceled the store plan? Other renewals may still hide on the same email.

5-minute fix after you already deleted everything

  1. Pull the last 30–90 days of card/bank activity.
  2. Circle every recurring Apple / Google / Amazon / merchant line.
  3. Cancel each one in the matching subscriptions list (links above).
  4. Screenshot confirmation + note the access end date.
  5. Watch one more billing cycle; if charged after the end date with proof, follow charged after canceling.

Do not start with a chargeback. Cancel + proof first. Bank tools vary and outcomes aren’t guaranteed. Pattern complaints can go to ReportFraud.ftc.gov (reporting, not a refund button).

FAQ

I deleted my account — why was I still charged?
Delete ≠ cancel. The billed party can renew until you cancel the subscription there.

I uninstalled the app — is that enough?
No. Uninstall doesn’t cancel Apple, Google Play, Amazon, or merchant billing.

I can’t log in anymore — how do I cancel?
Use the store account that matches the charge (Apple ID, Google, Amazon) or contact that billed party with the statement line. Brand login isn’t always required for store-billed plans.

Is unsubscribe the same as cancel?
No. Unsubscribe is usually email only.

Where do I start if I don’t know who’s billing me?
Read the statement descriptor → who’s billing you map.
